Click here for an interesting article on the midah of Love, written by Alan Morinis in Reform Judaism magazine.

  1. Thoughts about Cultivating Love (Morinis’ article):

Morinis said “We have forgotten the essence of who we are. Each and every one of us is a holy soul.”
    - I rarely think in these terms. It’s not my normal assumption. I think I’m an individual, just here wandering around sometimes with no purpose. It’s nice to feel like something more.

“Love is the bonding of nefesh-souls. The pain of betrayal or abandonment is the breaking apart of the nefesh-souls. The severance is as real as the pain we feel.”
    - I’ve wondered recently what actually causes the pain inside in circumstances like these. Maybe this is the answer. It felt like real physical pain, but I’m sure it was just emotional.

“Ahava means to offer or to give.”
    - I remember learning this in Hebrew school and thought it made so much sense. Then I forgot all about it, but I can really use it now. It’s never too late!

Regarding generosity: “It’s not the thing that is given, but the selflessness that triggers love.”
    - Selflessness is hard to come by some days. It’s hard to find a balance between selflessness and taking care of yourself at the same time.

“The soul of a person is the candle of God.”
    - What a beautiful concept.

    Thanks for posting this.
